Every day I get up, get my son ready to go to his grandma’s house, grab a prepackaged lunch and rush out the door to make sure I get to work at 8am. I have …
The Importance of Support
I quite often feel like I am on autopilot now, but it was not that long ago that I was truly lost in how to manage my life changes.
My husband and I had spent the majority of our lives together being what I called “pseudo-adults”; we had some adult responsibilities but mostly could just do what we wanted, when we wanted to do it. Both of us had steady jobs, we purchased my childhood home from my parents and miraculously paid off our college debt. We decided we were finally ready to have a child. Little did we know, no one is ever ready to be a parent.
I was 32 when I was blessed with my son Nick. After Nick was born, I was scared to death of how to handle being a mother. I worried about everything. I mourned the loss of my pre-child life and was stressed about managing being a working mom. I wondered how I could be a mother while still maintaining any shred of personal identity. To compound this problem, exactly one month after I went back to work, I learned that my office was closing its doors and moving out of town to Indianapolis. My steady job of a decade was coming to an end.
Thankfully, I have a great support system. I have wonderful parents who could teach me how to maneuver this strange new world of parenthood. I have in-laws who are not judgmental and supportive of me. I have friends and family who are willing to help out when I call on them. I have a husband with whom I can share both the joys and challenges of parenthood and life. And I found my job here at Radiant Health.
I am lucky. I am thankful for my support, because without it I may not be the best me I could be today. My support helped me to know it would be ok that I could handle this new life. No one should have to face all of their challenges alone. Support is what helps you achieve to your highest potential. We all need it.
I feel very proud to work somewhere that helps others, who aren’t as lucky, by being a support system when they have nowhere else to turn. Radiant Health is a place that helps people become better versions of themselves; better parents, better family members, better individuals.
