I recently had a business trip that I chose to take as road trip. Eight hours each way gave me a lot of time to think about Radiant Health and how we are called to serve in our community. We are called to stand at the margins with members of our community whom others may have dismissed or ignored. We give voice to children who have been neglected or abused. We are the second chance for those who have lost their way and are working hard to find their way back to themselves, their families, and the community. We are the safe base for thousands of unique individuals. Did you know that? We directly impact the lives of THOUSANDS of people each year. And you know what? There are more who need us.
Service to others is the highest calling of the self. When we shift our focus to “how may I bring my highest and best self to serve others today”, the work becomes lighter, and we are able to stretch ourselves to meet the needs of our people. I had a call from one of our clients last week. I had mailed this person a card after meeting them for the first time and they were calling me to tell me they really appreciated receiving it. We talked for about 15 minutes, and they shared with me the things they really appreciate about Radiant Health—their case manager, social activities, communing with other clients when the opportunity arises.
As you can imagine, it did my heart good to know so many of our experts have positively touched the life of this client and so much so that they felt it was worth telling me about. These are the stories I keep in mind when interacting with our communities. Every single person at Radiant Health is making a powerful positive contribution in the lives of those they serve and those they work alongside.
While we are one organization, we see our partners pushing to do the same by asking themselves—How do I add value for this person or those I serve? How do I connect this person to other resources? How do I create a positive opportunity for this person? It’s amazing how one person helping another person creates a domino effect that comes back to you. None of us are perfect, but through our service, together, we are building a brighter kind of better.
