Radiant Health set to host Mental Health Matters as part of Mental Health Awareness Month
Marion, IN – May 4, 2023 Radiant Health will host Mental Health Matters, as part of Mental Health Awareness Month, on May 17th from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Gardens of Matter Park. The event is Free and focused on the importance of offering youth activities designed to help them self-regulate and support mental wellness.
Mental Health Awareness Month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness in Americans’ lives, to celebrate those living in recovery and the importance of how essential mental wellness is for a person’s overall health.
The event is a partnership with the United Way of Grant County.
“United Way of Grant County recognizes that mental health is foundational to overall health and well-being. Our partnership with Radiant Health for the Mental Health Matters event reflects our commitment to fostering an environment where mental health is understood, discussed, and prioritized. We believe that equipping our youth and their families with the tools to promote mental wellness is an investment in the resilience of our community,” said LeeAnna Smith, Executive Director, United Way of Grant County.
According to the CDC, in 2021, 42% of students reported feeling persistently sad or hopeless and nearly one-third experienced poor mental health. As well as, 1 in 5 students seriously considered attempting suicide and 1 in 10 attempted suicide.
Mental Health Matters is designed to offer youth, ages 5-18, opportunities to explore ways to develop healthy mental wellness habits and reduce the stigma around addressing mental health.
“Our children and youth need and deserve to be supported in all areas of health, including mental wellness. It is our mission to offer social, emotional, and mental health support, resources, and education to all within our community,” said Jenny Allbaugh, Manager of Community and School Based Service. “Mental Health Matters achieves this mission,” she continued.
The evening event will feature several free activities including painting, therapy dogs, chair yoga, reading with Marion Public Library, Balloon Art with Aaron Messer, Imagination Library sign up, Silent Disco, jewelry making, Hot Dogs with the Marion Fire Department, and many more activities.
The event is being made possible by the generous support of the United Way of Grant County, TJR Equipment, Via Credit Union, The Chronicle Tribune, Hoosier AM/FM, Atlas Foundry, Bahr Brothers, Edward Jones- Bobby Browder and the Rotary Club of Grant County.
