Earlier this year, a Kindergarten class from General Shanks Elementary in Portland, Indiana donated 40 pairs of pajamas for children at the Flannery-Keal Home.
Kindergarten Class Donates Pajamas to the Flannery-Keal Home
The class’ teacher included a note with the two boxes of pajamas sharing that instead of swapping Christmas gifts, the class collected donations to buy the pajamas. Photos of the children at the Flannery-Keal Home proudly wearing their new pajamas can be found at the end of this post!
The Flannery-Keal Home is located in a confidential location for male and female victims of domestic violence and their children. Domestic violence victims may stay up to 45 days at the emergency shelter where all their basic necessities such as food, new clothing, and personal hygiene items are provided for them at no cost. The shelter can also assist individuals experiencing homelessness and their children for up to 45 days, when space permits.
Shelter Services also include:
- Case Manager (Grant County only): Meeting with each resident at least twice a week, a case manager offers clients options and alternatives to violent relationships. Additionally, the case manager assists clients in reaching realistic goals for self-sufficiency. Case management is also available to outreach clients who do not wish to come to the shelter.
- Counseling: Available through Clinical Services. As funding is available, free individual therapeutic counseling is offered to victims of domestic or sexual violence.
- Victim’s Advocate: Trained victim advocates are available to guide victim through the legal process, including completion of a protective order or violent crime compensation paperwork.
- Children’s Advocate (Grant County only): Aids children at the Flannery-Keal Home by providing assistance with schoolwork and structured play and learning activities.
In 2014, The Flannery-Keal Home provided 556 nights of safe sleep for children and 3,135 nights of safe sleep for adults. For more information about Hands of Hope and the Flannery-Keal Home, click here.
