Women’s history month is March. It is a time to celebrate great women and their contributions to our society and culture. I would like to share with you about two women who were directly responsible …
Inspirational Women Change Lives
I have always said Judi Flannery blazed the trail for me 27 years ago when I took over as director of what was then Women’s Services and is now called Hands of Hope. I remember the first time I met Judi Flannery as a new police reporter at the Chronicle-Tribune. I remember the passion she displayed and the way she knew how to convince you that you were a valuable asset in the battle against domestic violence.
I know there is still much work to be done to eliminate domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking in our community. And I still passionately believe as Judi Flannery once did, that I can make a difference in fighting against these crimes.
Of course, it was Connie Rose, who believed in me and gave me a chance to thrive, despite my degree being in journalism, not social work. Connie gave 40 years of dedicated service to Family Service Society before retiring as Executive Director. Her mission for leadership was to make a difference.
During this month of March, let us take time to remember and thank women in each of our lives who have molded us, believed in us and taught us to be our best.
So, to the memory of Judi and in honor of Connie, I say thank you for all you have done to improve lives for others.
