We had a fun and relaxing weekend with a lot of pool time. My toes are still pruny (is that even a word?). It’s nice to take a break from the day to day and …
I Love My Life
With that in mind, my youngest daughter and I were sitting at the dinner table the other night, just the two of us, feasting on bowtie pasta and grilled chicken tossed in pesto, when Isabelle said, “Mom, I love my life!” She had a definite and contented smile on her face…as if she had just had a rare epiphany. I smiled and said, “What do you love about your life today?” She quickly responded as she reached her hands to the sky in a sweeping gesture, “Everything.” And just as quickly, she returned to eating dinner, chatting periodically about important neighborhood news—who fell off their bike and needed a band-aid, whose dog chased them while they were running by, who had a tick from the creek, etc.
Isabelle’s message to me was an important reminder that each of us has the opportunity to CREATE a life that we LOVE. We also have the responsibility to create safe environments for children to grow up feeling loved, secure and nurtured. Here at Family Service Society we are often helping individuals and families pick up the pieces when the rug of love, safety and security is pulled out from under them. We are their first stop on the journey to recapture those feelings and to offer the opportunity to believe that creating a life one can love is possible.
Here’s to creating lives we LOVE as we change lives for good!
