Most of you know I’m a Nebraska Cornhusker, born and raised. One of my life’s passions is horses.
Connecting to Joy
I love to ride them, clean up after them, spend time just watching them. I am 100% content in the presence of a horse. As a young child (5 to 7) I would sneak carrots out of my mom’s refrigerator and lure the neighbor’s horses over to the fence. While the horse was enjoying the treat I brought, I would climb the fence and jump on his back taking him for a short ride until getting caught by the owner and having to “take a fall” in order to run away. I did this constantly into my teens. I tried really hard to push my passion onto my children—none of whom really caught the magic that I felt every time I was in the presence of a horse.
In light of some of the tragic news we’ve received in recent days about deadly accidents, I found myself feeling a little low and heavy.
Then, I was unexpectedly filled with joy when I found this picture of my son, William.
This picture was taken in 2004 during his FIRST riding lesson. Look at his face! If that does not make you giggle a little or think of a whimsical time of your own, I don’t know what will. I really needed that feeling of joy today as I looked at Will’s face.
At Radiant Health we work every day to connect our clients back to joy. We provide a safe, nurturing place for them to lay down their most burdensome pain. And by embracing them, without judgment, we free them to find joy again.
This past month, we have been recognizing our staff’s efforts as social workers, therapists, psychologists, friends, and family. For those of you in our larger “family,” my wish for you is that YOU continue to connect to JOY in spite of the challenges you face in your daily lives. If there is any way we can help you, please do not hesitate to call us if you need counseling to re-ignite those joy-filled connections: 765.662.9971.
Joyfully,
