Like Judi Flannery, Bonnie was that strong advocate for victims of domestic violence – the glue that held the emergency shelter together in those fledgling years as stability was sought.
Bonnie Keal: the Keal in the Flannery-Keal Home Name
While Bonnie was not in the public eye, like Judi was, it was Bonnie who tirelessly ensured that the phone would always be answered and the doors would always be open to provide refuge for that victim who had been battered, beaten or verbally abused by the one person who the victim thought loved her.
I recall Bonnie telling me of the early days when money was scarce and she and others worked without pay at times because that is what they needed to do.
While today, Flannery-Keal Home staff are consistently compensated for their work, it is because of the efforts of Bonnie Keal and others that the community has embraced and continues to support the Flannery-Keal Home a program of Hands of Hope, a division of Radiant Health
Even after Bonnie left her role as shelter manager and came to Radiant Health as our receptionist, she and her husband Bo didn’t stray far from the domestic violence issue, always lending a helping hand or listening ear if needed.
Marion and Grant County have lost a true advocate for not only domestic violence victims, but all those in need, but heaven has gained a faithful servant and for that we are grateful and thankful.
