While some folks listen to music while they exercise and others listen to books or religious teachers, lately I’ve been listening to entrepreneurs.
Believe the Best
Folks who have wisdom to share based upon the creation of their companies. Last night as I was power walking our dog, Husker, I was listening to one of these entrepreneurs and he said, “you will always live up to who you believe you are.” I was totally geeking out and of course inquiring minds want to know, “who do I believe I am?”
This question seems easy, right? It’s not. (Insert bummer music here.)
Often who we believe we are and who we say/think we are can be two different things. A person may act and present as a wealthy person and actually believe deep down they are poor and undeserving of wealth. How our beliefs play out in our lives can be detrimental. In the example of the person who presents as wealthy but holds the belief of poverty and undeserving, serious debt tends to be a factor. In contrast, if I tell myself I am a go-getter and capable of anything I put my mind to, then soon this becomes an embedded belief and before you know it my life aligns with this belief and “I am a go-getter!”
How do you use this for your good? Find an aspect of your life you wish was different—let’s use “being on time” as an example. If you are always late, you have developed a belief that “I’m always late and I can’t help it.” Start developing a new belief. Lay the foundation by telling yourself, “I’m always on time.” Set your alarm clock across the room from you so that you are forced to get out of bed to turn it off and once moving, you hit your morning routine without hitting snooze three times. You will feel amazing about yourself with this one small change. As you continue practicing and being on time, you will develop the belief “I’m always on time.” Before you know it, you will truly be living that belief.
I’ve provided a simple example and understand that some beliefs are very difficult to unearth and come to terms with, however, by examining our behaviors, discovering our underlying beliefs that drive those behaviors, and making subtle changes to establish healthier and more productive beliefs, we can completely change our lives for GOOD!
Remember “you will always live up to who you believe you are.” So BELIEVE the BEST!
