Whew! I was nearly taken out by a bright yellow school bus this morning as I traversed the countryside, singing Adele— “When We Were Young” — at the top of my lungs, and steering happily …
Are you ALL IN today?
I saw the bus out of my peripheral vision as the driver pulled out into oncoming traffic—I was the oncoming traffic. The headlight of the bus was at my driver’s side mirror. Not exaggerating. I was suddenly stunned “awake” out of my routine. My immediate decision to do a little “off-roading” to save my skin turned out to be a great choice.
Isn’t it funny how in certain moments, we are forced to “snap out of it” and are provided with an uncanny clarity and sharpened knowledge of what must happen next?
Personally I wouldn’t want the constant adrenaline rush but I certainly would like to have that kind of focus all the time. The noise of our lives dulls our senses and creates powerful distractions that lead us astray.
So how do we “snap out of it?”
Do things on a daily basis that allow you to be ALL IN. By that I mean be 100 percent present in what you are doing.
I frequently use “I’ll play a game with you when you finish____” with my youngest child. The catch is that once we are playing the game, there is no TV, no radio, no cell phones or other distractions. I’m ALL IN playing the games with my daughter.
Being ALL IN creates the memories we carry with us. In my case, today’s memory feels a bit like a near-death experience.
The great thing is I have the rest of today to create new positive memories where I’m all in—walking my dogs and enjoying the warmer temperatures, cooking a nutritious meal for my family and watching them enjoy it and engaging with my colleagues and our clients.
Today, I challenge you to be ALL IN at work and at play. And thank you for being ALL IN when it comes to Radiant Health and the clients and communities we serve!
